Christmas Markets Innsbruck – What to See and which Places to Visit
Interested in which places you shouldn’t miss during Advent in Innsbruck? Where are the main Innsbruck Christmas markets held and where to go for culture, or on the other hand, for the most beautiful decorations? Where to go with children and where can you enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Austrian Christmas? Here I have prepared a more detailed description of individual places for you:
CHRISTMAS MAGIC IN THE OLD TOWN
The Christmas market in the old town of Innsbruck takes place from November 15 to December 23, 2025, and attracts holidaymakers with its traditional festive atmosphere among medieval houses and the Golden Roof. It offers handmade products, decorations, and local specialties, accompanied by Christmas music from a brass band playing from the height of the Golden Roof. There’s also a viewing platform with a beautiful view and the magical Kiebachgasse alley, which turns into a fairy tale world in December with characters from popular stories.
LIGHT AND MODERN STYLE. MARIA THERESA STREET
The Christmas market on Maria Theresa Street runs from November 25, 2025 to January 6, 2026, and brings a modern concept of Christmas with a flood of lights, decorated trees, and an international range of gifts. It’s an ideal place to buy souvenirs and to relax with mulled wine and refreshments during Christmas shopping in the center of Innsbruck.
ADVENT AT THE MARKET SQUARE
The Christmas market at the Market Square in Innsbruck, held from November 15 to December 23, 2025, is especially popular among families with children. It offers a fairy-tale atmosphere of a Tyrolean village, puppet shows, storytelling, and a traditional carousel with wooden figures. The centerpiece of the square is a 14-meter-high crystal tree surrounded by dozens of stalls with gifts, crafts, and local delicacies.
CHRISTMAS ATMOSPHERE AT HUNGERBURG
The panoramic Christmas market at Hungerburg runs from November 21, 2025 to January 6, 2026, and offers a calm, romantic atmosphere with a breathtaking view of winter Innsbruck. You can easily reach the place by the Nordkettenbahnen cable car from the city center. Visitors can expect hot punch, delicious refreshments, and stalls with handmade decorations and Christmas accessories. I believe you won’t leave empty-handed from here.
ST. NICHOLAS
The Christmas market in the St. Nicholas district, held from November 21 to December 23, 2025, is one of the quietest and most authentic places in Advent Innsbruck. On the small Hans-Brenner-Platz square on the other bank of the Inn River, a few stalls await with traditional music, homemade cookies, and a peaceful Christmas atmosphere ideal for moments of contemplation.
CHRISTMAS MAGIC IN WILTEN
The Christmas market at Wiltener Platz takes place from November 21 to December 21, 2025, and offers an intimate but magical atmosphere with a cultural program and specialties not only from Tyrol. In addition to handmade products, visitors can look forward to organic mulled wine, short concerts, and puppet shows for children in the picturesque setting of the Wilten square.
My Secret Tip: IMPERIAL CHRISTMAS AT BERGISEL
Imperial Christmas at Bergisel is held from November 14 to December 21, 2025 on weekends and brings a calm, traditional atmosphere with an emphasis on regional products and Tyrolean craftsmanship. The market offers an authentic experience inspired by Christmas of years past and is an ideal place for those seeking peaceful holiday tranquility and a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

- By train with a transfer in Munich or Salzburg.
Skiing before Christmas:
- Combine skiing on Tyrolean glaciers with visiting Christmas markets.
Accommodation:
Parking:

When to visit the markets in Innsbruck:

Families with children:
- You’ll enjoy the Christmas market at Marktplatz, where you should find a children’s carousel and ice rink this year too.

Beautiful historic center, snowy Alpine backdrop, and warm mulled wine in hand. This city will get you in the Christmas spirit within a few hours, and you definitely won’t leave empty-handed. I consider it mandatory to buy at least one Christmas tree ornament.
