A trip to Hintersee and Ramsau is one of the nicest you can take in Bavaria, Germany, near Berchtesgarden. I have prepared this tip for you today so you can easily plan either a quick day trip or a whole weekend in this fairytale place. Hintersee
Hintersee is one of the smaller, but all the more magical lakes in Bavaria. I would definitely rank it among the most picturesque small lakes in Germany.
-
You can find it near Ramsau not far from Berchtesgaden, a short distance from the more famous Königssee.
-
The lake is famous for its crystal clear water, which reflects the surrounding mountains.
-
The area around Hintersee is romantic – often a model for painters and photographers. Just an interesting fact for us art lovers, in the 19th century it was popular with landscape painters (it is even called Malerwinkel – “Painter’s Corner”).
-
An easy circular path leads around the lake, making it ideal for a walk.
-
In addition, nearby is the fairytale Zauberwald (Enchanted Forest) – an area with boulders and streams where you will feel like you have stepped right into a fairy tale.
Ramsau
Ramsau is a picturesque alpine village near Berchtesgaden, known mainly for the Church of St. Sebastian, which is one of the most photographed places in Bavaria. From the center of the village you can quickly get to the aforementioned Hintersee lake and the fairytale Zauberwald. The area is ideal for easy walks and shorter trips in the mountains, making Ramsau a great tip for a day trip when traveling through the Berchtesgaden Alps.
Where and when is the best place to photograph the church in the village of Ramsau?
The most famous and beautiful photographs of the Church of St. Sebastian in Ramsau are taken from the road, at the Ramsauer Ache river. This place is only a few steps from the church and I believe you will find it intuitively, or according to other vacationers, of whom there will certainly be a few here in season. From here, the classic view opens up, the church in the foreground, the river with a wooden bridge and the panorama of the Reiter Alm and Hochkalter mountains in the background.
In my opinion, the best time for photography is in the morning or afternoon, when the light is softer and the mountains in the background are not too dark. However, you can conjure up beautiful photos here at any time of the day.
