Golfo Aranci – Cala Moresca

Since I booked us a night ferry with Corsica Ferries, the town of Golfo Aranci was our first stop on our 2023 vacation in Sardinia. The nice port city of Golfo Aranci, which lies on the northeast coast of Sardinia, attracts travelers with its picturesque beauty, charming harbor and unforgettable marine environment. This small Italian resort offers the perfect combination of sunny atmosphere, cultural treasures and natural wealth, making it an ideal destination for a vacation full of relaxation and discovery.

Golfo Aranci is not just about sunny beach vacations, but also offers interesting cultural experiences. The city has roots in fishing, which is evident in its authentic atmosphere and traditions associated with the sea. Every year in the summer, there is a fishing festival that celebrates the richness of seafood and also presents traditional Sardinian dances and music. If you are in Sardinia when the festival takes place, I recommend not missing it. At least lovers of fish and seafood dishes will get their money’s worth.

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to discover the many secrets of seafood preparation directly from the masters of Golfo Aranci cuisine. For lovers of Italian cuisine, Golfo Aranci will be a true gastronomic paradise. Local restaurants offer fresh seafood, traditional pasta and delicious desserts. Don’t forget to taste the local specialty in Sardinia – risotto or pasta with seafood, which will give you an authentic taste experience associated with regional cuisine.

Another natural treasure of Golfo Aranci is the Capo Figari protected area, where there is a breathtaking view of the sea and the rocky coast. For adventurers and hikers, it is an ideal location to explore the untouched natural environment. I definitely recommend fit vacationers to plan a day trek to this cape. Along the way, you will come across many bays that will tempt you to cool off. We personally liked the aforementioned Cala Moresca beach, which we had literally to ourselves in the early hours of the morning.

Inside the protected area of the Capo Figari promontory, you will discover a small bay with two picturesque beaches. They charm with golden sand that contrasts with the emerald green sea. This small bay offers a calmer atmosphere and is surrounded by rocks, which makes its scenery very picturesque. It is a great location for snorkeling and observing marine life. Likewise, kayak and paddleboard owners will be thrilled here.

Access to one of these two beaches was closed during our June vacation due to safety reasons of a possible cliff collapse. But that didn’t stop us from enjoying a wonderful morning on the main beach, where there was no risk of collapse.

Cala Moresca Bay is located only about 2 kilometers from Golfo Aranci and is therefore an ideal tip for a trip if you are spending your vacation in Sardinia in this area. If you are traveling here by car from one of the more distant areas of the island, use the paid parking lot, which is located about half an hour’s walk from the bay. In June 2023, it cost 1.50 euros per hour from 8 am.

In addition to the beach itself, you are offered breathtaking views of the surrounding rocks and also of the iconic island of Figarolo, which will amaze you with its characteristic pyramid shape. It is an unpolluted bay with great natural value. Continuing from the parking lot to the bay by car is, of course, strictly prohibited.

The charming Cala Moresca bay used to serve as a small port for local fishermen, but now you can enjoy it as a pristine place for your relaxation. In the high season, I recommend arriving early enough to enjoy the magic of this beach just for yourself, at least for the first morning hours. Around 10 am, tourists from the city and the surrounding area start pouring in. For you, this can be an impulse to go on a trek through the Capo Figaro reservation and maybe you will discover another untouched bay.
