Villa Barberino
Villa Barberino is a true gem of the Tuscan countryside and a great place for your vacation and celebration. From a distance, the country estate built on the grounds of the old Barberino castle seems to float above the lake, vineyards, and olive groves, offering its visitors not only breathtaking views but also an immersive atmosphere of historical elegance. I chose this accommodation in Villa Barberino for my birthday celebration during our Italian road trip in early June, and since we were more than satisfied, we are happy to recommend the villa to you.

Don’t be fooled by the name, this is not just accommodation in one villa. Villa Barberino is the name for the entire rural estate spread out into a small village on a hill, within which individual rooms and apartments are located. In the building, you will find everything you need so that you don’t have to leave the property during your stay.
Getting there and parking
Villa Barberino is located on a hill in Meleto Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, just an hour’s drive from Florence. I’ll answer you straight away that you need to get here by car. Either your own or a rented one, for example, at the airport in Florence.
We drive through the town of Meleto Valdarno, and although our navigation shows only a few minutes to the destination, we cannot yet imagine that in a moment we will find ourselves in a true Tuscan paradise, as we dreamed of it from the photos when booking. The excitement was even greater when we drove up the hill, passed through the gate of Villa Barberino, and went to check in.
You suddenly find yourself in a Tuscan fairy tale that you have been looking forward to and you feel like you have gone back at least a few centuries. After all, the original Barberino castle has stood here since the 14th century. You are charmed by literally every step in this breathtaking village with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. The approaching storm, which was to be expected due to the high temperatures, adds to the drama. All the more reason we are glad that our apartment is located near the free parking lot at the villa.

Accommodation in Villa Barberino
Ideally, plan your accommodation in Villa Barberino for 2-3 nights during your Italian road trip, just like we enjoyed our stay in June this year. However, if you are looking for a longer relaxation in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, you will be satisfied even with a week’s stay, with the option of taking trips to the surrounding area.
I personally booked accommodation for us in Villa Barberino in a spacious, traditionally Tuscan-style apartment for 3 people. We had a separate equipped kitchen, a balcony, and a bedroom with comfortable beds. There are also luxury rooms and suites, for example, for your honeymoon.
Accommodation in Villa Barberino – However, this villa is not just a place to stay overnight. I dare say that it is a destination that will be etched in the heart of every vacationer who comes here. From history to landscape, from cuisine to relaxation, this Tuscan pearl offers travelers a unique experience. It is a place where the ancient past meets the present and nature merges with human art. Villa Barberino invites you to visit a place where every moment is like a jewel on the crown of your Tuscan adventure.
When walking through the village, you will immerse yourself in the diverse beauty of the landscape and architecture. Walks in the early morning and late afternoon are especially captivating. You can also observe the mists that are so characteristic of the Tuscan countryside. Villa Barberino is like a gateway to a natural and historical paradise, where time slows down and the heart beats in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Don’t forget to visit the local museum – arrange a tour at the reception.
In addition to its beautiful architecture and natural wealth, this place is also a gateway to the world of excellent Tuscan cuisine. The local restaurant Il Tributo combines traditional recipes with modern culinary art, bringing unique combinations of flavors and aromas to the plates. Visitors can taste delicious traditional dishes, with the ingredients for their preparation mostly coming from local farmers. Olive oils from local farms, cheeses from nearby pastures, and of course wines that are born under the Tuscan sun with love and passion.
Villa Barberino is not only about Tuscan adventure but also about peace and relaxation. The gardens of this residence offer an oasis of calm, where visitors can immerse themselves in reading a book or enjoy the company of their loved ones. The swimming pool with a view of the countryside is like a refreshing oasis where you can relax and forget about the outside world. Of course, beach towels and plenty of sunbeds are available, and in season there is also a bar open, which is located in a historic building right by the pool.

History – Villa Barberino
Villa Barberino was abandoned for many decades. The Boni family took it over, taking it over in a desolate state after it had been deteriorating here since the second half of the 19th century. Together with the adjacent village, the villa underwent a demanding renovation and reconstruction from 1988 to its present form. It is unbelievable how terrible this place was and how it looks today.
The rooms and apartments are precisely and lovingly reconstructed with respect for Tuscan tradition. A newly built swimming pool with panoramic views, well-kept Italian gardens, including a small fountain. A restaurant located in period-reconstructed spaces. All this is complemented by traditional furniture and antiques to make your stay here unforgettable.
