Are you flying to Sri Lanka and would like to try something new, far from the main tourist rush? Then my verified tip for a luxury Safari Resort on the beach shouldn’t be missing from your itinerary. In our opinion, it is one of the most beautiful accommodations you can currently experience in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka – Safari Resort on the Beach

The luxury lies mainly in its originality and the location where this fairytale resort is situated. We ended up spending several days here during our wedding anniversary last year, and I would definitely recommend it as a honeymoon destination. If you’re anything like us, you won’t want to leave. So, let’s talk a bit more about the resort:

One of the most beautiful boutique resorts we’ve had the chance to discover in Sri Lanka is spread across the middle of Kalkudah Beach. Karpaha Sands is located on a wide sandy beach with palm trees where, besides swimming in the sea, you can go for long coastal walks. When the sea is calm, you can rent kayaks or paddleboards. In the afternoons, you can watch the fishermen on the beach.

If we want to find our secret resort, we’ll drive for about 20 minutes through cashew plantations from the first village. Not because it’s such a long distance, but rather because of the road, which is significantly damaged after storms, and cars try not to ruin their chassis. However, even that makes our resort even more interesting.

You can truly forget about crowds of tourists and overcrowded beaches here (at least for now). Be prepared for the fact that the resort isn’t exactly suitable for short day trips. Personally, I recommend planning several nights of total relaxation here, where you just enjoy the place itself.

You’re in for an arrival in paradise! You will be staying in luxury SAFARI TENTS (hence our personal nickname Safari Resort) with an outdoor bathroom and an indoor bathtub. You can choose between beach tents, which give you a direct view of the beach and the sea, and garden tents with a private garden area—these are slightly cheaper but no less original.

The Safari Resort offers sun loungers and umbrellas free of charge, as well as beach towels by the pool. The pool bar is also available to you all day at reasonable prices. Since Karpaha Sands is (for now) the only luxury hotel in this part of the beach, it is expected that you will also eat here.

The meals are affordable and, in our experience, worth every dollar spent. Expect to pay up to about $25 for dinner per person. We enjoyed both the traditional Rice & Curry and the Seafood Plate and grilled fish from local fishermen, from whom the chef selects the best catches.

Gluten-free bread for me was a matter of course here. Unfortunately, the papadam contained gluten. Most dishes in Sri Lanka are otherwise naturally gluten-free. But always ask about the ingredients just to be sure.

Internet is free here and works on a hotspot principle, where you have their mobile phone to which you connect your devices. You can also see the food and drink menu on the phone and communicate directly with the reception via WhatsApp.

Since this fairytale Safari Resort is located on the eastern side of Sri Lanka, it is an ideal tip for your spring to summer holiday in Sri Lanka. Personally, I consider the ideal time for a holiday in this part of the island to be at the turn of March and April, when the season is slowly ending in the southwest and just beginning in the east.

But of course, the weather is never 100% guaranteed and it can rain on the island practically anytime. It’s just that the statistics for beautiful sunny days on the east coast are on your side from spring to summer.

Among other things, on your way to the Safari Resort, you can see the cashew nut plantations where they are grown on trees and are also one of Sri Lanka’s export items. If you love nuts as much as we do, you can look forward to buying a few packs to take with you or enjoying them right on the spot. Perhaps during an evening contemplation on the terrace of your safari beach tent.
