Karlovy Vary Christmas Markets 2026: What to see, where to stay, and what to experience
The Karlovy Vary Christmas markets are great if you’re looking for an Advent trip that combines a festive atmosphere with spa elegance. Karlovy Vary is definitely one of the most interesting Czech destinations. The Christmas markets take place right between the colonnades, hot springs, and historic houses along the Teplá River. Compared to large city markets, they are more romantic, and you can easily combine your visit with a wellness stay, mineral spring tasting, or an evening stroll through the illuminated spa center.

Karlovy Vary Christmas Markets – what to see here?
Mill Colonnade – the heart of Advent
The most important place for Advent will be the Mill Colonnade. This is where the city concentrates the main Christmas markets and the accompanying cultural program featuring regional artists and well-known Czech performers.
The stalls traditionally feature handmade crafts, Christmas decorations, and small gifts. Advent in Karlovy Vary also includes mulled wine, punch, mead, hot chocolate, gingerbread, trdelník, and savory snacks.

Christmas Tree in front of Thermal
The second important stop is the area in front of Hotel Thermal. This is where the city’s Christmas tree will stand, and its ceremonial lighting will take place on November 29, 2026. From Thermal, we recommend continuing on foot through the spa center to the Mill Colonnade, Market Colonnade, and the Vřídlo (Hot Spring). After dark, this part of the city is the most photogenic.

Concerts and Christmas Gala Ballet
Christmas in Karlovy Vary is not just about the markets. You can also visit the Karlovy Vary City Theatre for a Christmas concert or a ballet performance. For 2026, a Christmas Gala Ballet is planned, which is always a great experience in the beautiful theater setting.
Christmas Road Train and Spa Center
Part of Christmas Karlovy Vary will also be the traditional Christmas road train of the Karlovy Vary Transport Company. It passes through the spa center and is especially popular with families with children.

For an evening walk, plan a route from Thermal through the colonnades towards Grandhotel Pupp and the Imperial Spa. This way, you’ll see most of the main sights during a single pleasant walk. For me, this is the classic loop we walk anytime during the year when we visit Vary.
What to do in Karlovy Vary during Advent?
If you have more time, add a visit to the Mill Colonnade and a tasting of the local springs. Families can also head to the Christmas House in Doubí, a year-round exhibition of Christmas ornaments and decorations. I should warn you, you won’t want to leave empty-handed. In November and December, it is open Tuesday to Friday 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM, and Sunday and holidays 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Closed on December 24 and 25. Inside the Christmas House, there is also a cozy cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a treat.
The 2026 Karlovy Vary Christmas Markets are ideal for a day trip or an entire spa weekend. You’ll appreciate that most interesting places are right in the center. Markets, springs, cafés, and wellness hotels are all within walking distance. If you want fewer people, come on a weekday; for the best Advent atmosphere, choose the weekend and stay until evening.
Thanks to the dates running until January 1, 2027, Karlovy Vary is also a great tip for a trip between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Current information for the Karlovy Vary Christmas Markets:
- In addition to the main market by the Mill Colonnade, there will also be small Christmas markets in Dvořák Gardens this year. The Advent decorations are designed to create a continuous route from Hotel Thermal through the spa center all the way to Theater Square.
- This year’s city Christmas tree will be a 15-meter-tall blue spruce in front of Hotel Thermal. The area around Thermal is set to receive new decorations and lighting.
- The transport company is again preparing a Christmas tourist road train and a decorated Christmas bus, which will run on public transport lines until Epiphany. However, the road train schedule for 2026 has not been published yet – the ride details from December 2 to 23 currently shown lower on the page are from a previous year and should not be used for the 2026 article yet.
