1. Barcola
The most famous city beach is among the most popular beaches in Trieste and consists of a long promenade north of the center. You can lie on the rocks or concrete terraces and enter the water via steps. In summer, Barcola is full of locals who come here after work to swim or sit by the sea. Along the promenade, you’ll find bars, parks, and showers.
2. Topolini (Barcola)
A popular swimming spot right on Barcola. The name means “little mice,” named after the concrete arches that resemble Mickey Mouse’s silhouette. These are maintained platforms with direct access to the sea, where local young people often gather.
3. Bagno Marino La Lanterna – Beaches in Trieste
A historic city bathing area also known as Pedocin. It’s unique because it still has separate sections for men and women, a tradition dating back to the 19th century. century. The bathing area is very popular among local residents.
4. Stabilimento Ausonia – Beaches in Trieste
One of the oldest city bathing establishments in Trieste. It offers a pool, diving boards, a restaurant, and maintained sunbathing terraces. It’s ideal for those who want comfortable swimming with full facilities.

Thanks to this, the sea here is exceptionally clean and often turquoise, similar to Croatia. You’ll find the best swimming mainly between Trieste and Duino, where the coast turns into small bays.
5. Canovella de’ Zoppoli
One of the most beautiful natural beaches around Trieste. It lies about 20 minutes by car north of the city and is surrounded by rocks and vegetation typical of the Karst coast.

- great snorkeling
- fewer tourists than on the city beaches
The beach is mostly pebbly and rocky. You’ll find small beach bars here, but the atmosphere remains quite natural.
6. Baia di Sistiana
Sistiana Bay is one of the most beautiful swimming spots in the entire Gulf of Trieste. It lies about 18 km from the center of Trieste and is easily accessible by car and bus.

The sea here tends to be bright blue to turquoise, especially on sunny days.
7. Spiaggia del Principe (Duino)
