We visited Camp de Mar and the southwestern part of Mallorca for the first time in 2019. The choice wasn’t easy. I was deciding between three locations, but in the end, I chose the one that attracted us with its romantic restaurant on the island, which was reached by a wooden footbridge, right in the middle of the local public beach. Anyone who has ever visited the ILLETA restaurant – bar knows that I mean the romantic resort of Camp de Mar.

The resort is not very large. Several hotels are located right around the main beach and almost all of them are just a few steps from the sea. As in other places on the island of Mallorca, if you want to enjoy the beach with as few tourists as possible, head to the sea early in the morning.
Camp de Mar
After lunch, it will be difficult to find a free spot here. However, if you prefer smaller beach resorts with sufficient facilities including several shops, bars and restaurants, where you can also go on several hiking trips along the coast, then consider Camp de Mar.

ILLETA Restaurant
It is almost a must to go for lunch or dinner at the ILLETA restaurant. Or plan just a drink here after dinner, if you have catering provided at the hotel. However, keep in mind that you need to reserve your chosen table well in advance.
During the day, it is quite lively around the island. Paddleboards can also be rented on the beach, and it is possible to snorkel nicely around the rock on which the restaurant is built. Don’t expect any sea aquarium, but for local conditions you will see a bit of underwater life here.

My parents were delighted with the main beach, from where they had a view of the island with the restaurant, and Kája and I set out to explore the coast towards the port of Andratx. By the way, it is said to be one of the most breathtaking ports in Mallorca. Next time we return to the largest Balearic island, we will want to devote more time to this place so that we can see for ourselves.

For this time, our goal was to reach one of the bays, which were approximately 3-5 kilometers from our beach in Camp de Mar. In addition, the first half of the journey winds around the coast with breathtaking views. It passes around luxurious apartment residences and we also pass a 4* resort above the cliffs. Many villas and apartments are still under construction here.
A path from the main road also leads to the first bay, Cala en Cranc. We were originally heading to Cala Blanca, but the views over the cliffs lured us so much that we went to the beach here. The path is not maintained in any way. Rather, expect stones thrown into a stream leading steeply down. Not only sturdy shoes are suitable, but also water shoes, as the natural beach you go down to is pebbly.

The reward for our walk and the slightly more difficult descent from the cliffs was an almost half-empty pebble beach, which we liked so much that we stayed here until the evening. Someone was swimming naked here, someone in swimwear, and dog friends are not chased away from here either. For those for whom this style of natural beaches is unthinkable, it is better to avoid wild, remote bays. However, we were thrilled and definitely recommend taking a trip to one of these bays during your own vacation.
