Spain, Mallorca: A trip tip to one of the most breathtaking lagoons on the island

In today’s travel and vacation tips, I’ll take you to the Cala Agulla in Cala Ratjada area. Until the COVID era, I was not a fan of seaside holidays. In any case, the beginning of the 2019 holidays in our country, in terms of weather, was not very successful. So, a planned family vacation in Mallorca came in really handy. Visit the lagoon Cala Moltó:

Cala Ratjada – Cala Agulla beach

I would be lying if I wrote that I wasn’t worried about the crowds of tourists and overcrowded beaches, but in the corner of my vacationer’s soul, I subconsciously suspected that our favorite bay, not far from the resort of Cala Ratjada and the popular Cala Agulla beach in the northeast of Mallorca, would be as breathtaking as we know it from the autumn months.

Cala Moltó

You can see from my report today that it really was. Maybe I will also inspire some of you to taste this favorite paradise of ours as part of your own vacation in Mallorca:

On the map, you will find this turquoise lagoon under the name Cala Moltó. If you would like to live as close as possible to this breathtaking bay, I recommend that you be inspired by our verified luxury tip for the 4* boutique hotel Mar Azul, which I wrote about in one of the previous posts. You won’t go wrong by choosing any other well-rated accommodation in the area either. The only thing you will have to overcome is a walk across the popular and tourist-frequented Cala Agulla beach during the season.

Once you get to the end, don’t be discouraged by the ropes that are tied around the last house on the beach and go around them via a small bridge along a narrow path further on. Among other things, this is the beginning of a pleasant trek to the top, where you can set yourself the goal of reaching the old watchtower. We personally took this hike once before, and this year we only devoted ourselves to relaxing in the lagoon.

After a few minutes of walking, which more or less follows the coastline, you will reach the cliffs, in front of which you will find a sign with the name of the Cala Moltó bay. The place cannot be missed. Before you, there will be an absolutely breathtaking view of the turquoise lagoon, which will take your breath away, not just the first time.

In addition, if you are lucky with the weather and there are no storms in the days before your stay here, the sea level will be calm and the water will be crystal clear without algae clouding it.

It will be up to you to choose your dream beach or place on the cliffs where you will spend your dream day in paradise. Or even your entire vacation.

A few tips and warnings from a vacationer:

  • If you are staying anywhere else on the island of Mallorca, you can comfortably reach Cala Agulla beach by car, which you can park in the paid parking lot for EUR 5 per day. From here, continue across the beach according to the mentioned route
  • Take water shoes with you. It can be done without them, but keep in mind that the entrance to the water in many places in this bay is over rocks or cliffs. In the lagoon there is then clean sand and in places algae.
  • The beaches around the Cala Moltó lagoon are natural and maintained only by locals, who don’t mind that there are algae on them, quite the opposite. They know that if they cleaned them up, there would be many more tourists, just like there are on the public beach of Cala Agulla. If you mind the algae deposits, it is better not to come here.
  • Nowhere is it publicly written, but the small private beaches around the lagoon are also a paradise for naturists. Respectively, no one here will force you to take off your swimsuit, or vice versa, to put on a swimsuit if you like to swim and sunbathe without. However, if you mind nudity on the beach, it is better to avoid this place.
