Klínovec and Boží Dar: 2 connected Czech ski resorts that will thrill you
Klínovec and Boží Dar have been my favorite Czech ski resorts since childhood. If you are looking for a large Czech ski center where children, beginners, and athletic skiers can all enjoy themselves, while also having cross-country trails and winter hiking within reach, I highly recommend Klínovec and Boží Dar. At 1,244 meters, Klínovec is the highest mountain in the Ore Mountains, and the local ski resort offers approximately 31.5 km of slopes, 5 cable cars, 8 lifts, and 5 children’s magic carpets.

These two Czech ski resorts are very close to my heart, as I come from the Karlovy Vary region and we still head to the mountains here every winter. Usually around Christmas, when the winter atmosphere is just right, and besides the skiing itself, we enjoy mountain walks in the snowy landscape. For me, Klínovec and Boží Dar are still among the underrated Czech ski resorts, and it’s definitely worth making the trip here.
TOP 10 ACCOMMODATIONS AROUND KLÍNOVEC AND BOŽÍ DAR

Where to stay near Klínovec and Boží Dar?
Hotel Zelený Dům – a few steps from the slopes
Hotel Zelený Dům is located right in the center of Boží Dar, only about 150 meters from the slopes. It has excellent ratings, and a highly-rated breakfast is included in the price of selected stays. For me, it’s a good, mid-range choice if you want skiing, restaurants, and cross-country trails almost right outside your door.
JOY Hotel – wellness and Klínovec nearby
JOY Hotel in Háj u Loučné pod Klínovcem is especially suitable for those vacationers who want to stay on the Klínovec side. The nearest lifts are approximately 700 meters away, and the hotel features wellness facilities, saunas, and an outdoor pool. It has great ratings, and I also highly recommend the breakfast.
Engadin Boží Dar – luxury apartment
I recommend Engadin Apartments if you want more space without missing out on hotel wellness. You can look forward to two pools and a wellness center. Breakfast is also served during the winter season. The Neklid slope is about 300 meters away and Novako about 600 meters. Premium DeLuxe apartments are also available.
Klínovec and Boží Dar: 2 connected Czech ski resorts
In many places, you’ll read that these two Czech ski resorts are connected, and basically, that’s true. However, I think it’s good to explain how the connection between Klínovec and Boží Dar works. The slopes at Neklid and the Boží Dar lifts Za Prahou and Hranice are part of the Klínovec Ski Resort, and the same ski pass applies. However, it is not a continuous connection of all slopes solely on skis. Between some starting points, you need to use a car or a ski bus.
Note:
- The separate Novako family area in the center of Boží Dar has its own pricing.

Klínovec: the best slopes for families and experienced skiers
For beginners and families with children, I especially recommend the blue Dámská slope (1,450 meters long), the Turistická slope (1,700 meters long), and the smaller practice areas. For absolute beginners, Hugo’s Children’s Park is ready with two magic carpets. An interesting family option is also the long blue Lázeňská slope, which is 3.4 km long and covers a vertical drop of nearly 500 meters.

For intermediate skiers, I would mainly recommend the nearly three-kilometer Jáchymovská slope, Pařezovka, and Přemostěná. Neklid also offers very good skiing, where even my mom used to ski during her school ski trips. Specifically, these are the red Moser and Karásek I trails.
But Klínovec is definitely not just a family resort. More demanding skiers can try the black U Zabitého or Karásek II slopes. When there is enough natural snow, the ungroomed Jáchymovská Freeride I and II slopes are also interesting. Snowboarders and freestyle skiers can head to the CineStar Snowpark at Neklid, which features jumps, rails, boxes, and a wave line.

The modern Express cable car runs from Jáchymov to Klínovec
The cable car, which connects the lower starting point at Jáchymovská with the summit part of the resort, is also popular for those staying in Jáchymov. Additionally, there is a free parking lot at its bottom station, providing easy access to the nearly three-kilometer red Jáchymovská or the 3.4 km long blue Lázeňská.
- The cable car is particularly practical when arriving from Karlovy Vary and Ostrov, as you don’t have to continue by car all the way to Boží Dar or Loučná pod Klínovcem, where parking lots can be full during the peak season.
Boží Dar: the best choice for children and beginners
If you are traveling with small children, I think Boží Dar has a great advantage in its clarity. The Za Prahou I and II trails are 600 meters long and easy, as are the Hranice slopes, which are 300 to 500 meters long. Za Prahou is accessible directly from the town, and you can even buy a pass just for the local lift.

For even smaller children, I recommend Novako. The two easy slopes are 200 and 300 meters long, and there is a ski school for children from three years old, a rental shop, snowtubing, and night skiing. Standard operating hours are 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, and for night skiing 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM.
Once the children start skiing more confidently, you can move to Neklid or the main slopes of Klínovec.

Winter hike from Boží Dar to Klínovec
You don’t have to spend your entire stay on skis. A red hiking trail leads from Boží Dar to the top of Klínovec, a distance of approximately four kilometers. For me, it’s a pleasant destination for walking trips during the winter season. Look forward to breathtaking panoramas and plenty of photo spots.

Under good conditions, it’s a nice winter trip with a destination at an altitude of 1,244 meters. However, expect snow, ice in places, and mountain weather. Before you go, check the current status of the route and the operation of mountain restaurants where you can stop for hot tea and something good. Definitely do not enter closed slopes or the tracks intended for cross-country skiers.

Boží Dar is also a paradise for cross-country skiers
If you love cross-country skiing, I think it’s worth staying directly in Boží Dar. More than 120 km of cross-country trails are groomed in the area, and the Czech routes also connect to the German network around Fichtelberg.
Nice options include the ten-kilometer loop around Božídarský Špičák, the twenty-kilometer Karlova běh loop, or the five-kilometer Boží Dar-Klínovec route. A six-kilometer loop at Špičák is also reserved for skating.

Klínovec Ski Pass 2026/2027 and opening hours
For the 2026/27 season, a one-day ski pass for Klínovec costs 1,250 CZK for an adult, 750 CZK for a child, and 1,130 CZK for a senior. Online purchases should be cheaper. A two-day ski pass costs 2,440 CZK for an adult, and with multi-day tickets, you can also use the German Fichtelberg within the InterSkiregion.

Standard winter operating hours for Klínovec are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Night skiing takes place according to the current schedule on the Dámská slope. Entry from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM costs 690 CZK for an adult in the 2026/27 season.
Unofficial estimates expect Klínovec to open around November 27, 2026, and Novako around November 28, but the actual start depends on snow and snowmaking.

What’s new for winter 2026/27
Ahead of the new season, Klínovec is investing primarily in modernizing the snowmaking system and developing retention reservoirs to make water management more efficient and reduce the energy intensity of snow production. The U Staré lanovky restaurant at the summit is also undergoing a complete renovation.
For me, the combination of the Klínovec and Boží Dar ski resorts is ideal mainly for families with children or groups where everyone skis a bit differently. Children can start at Boží Dar, more advanced skiers can head to the long slopes of Klínovec, and on days off the slopes, you have over 120 km of cross-country trails or a winter hike to the highest mountain in the Ore Mountains at your disposal.
I wish you a wonderful winter holiday and maybe we’ll meet here in the winter!
