Lake Jasna in Slovenia is a favorite destination in the Julian Alps. It’s an ideal stop for those who love mountain scenery and peaceful relaxation by the emerald-colored lake. The starting point for this trip is the well-known Slovenian town of Kranjska Gora, which is best known to ski enthusiasts. You may have already seen this place in my winter tips for skiing in Slovenia. In winter, Kranjska Gora turns into a popular ski resort with perfectly groomed slopes.
In today’s travel tip, I’ll take you to the enchanting nature of Slovenia and show you the fairytale Lake Jasna, and how you can enjoy it during this summer season:
Lake Jasna in Slovenia
Lake Jasna in Slovenia consists of two interconnected artificial lakes and its total area is approximately 2.2 hectares. So it is not huge, but its turquoise water and picturesque mountain setting make this place a true natural gem.
In addition to the impressive backdrop of mountain ranges, a well-known landmark that identifies Lake Jasna is the bronze statue of a Capricorn and a carved frame with a bench for photo greetings on the shore. A wooden promenade with relaxation zones runs along the lake, from where you can enjoy wonderful views.

If you are planning a more active vacation in Slovenia, Lake Jasna is a great starting point for hiking trips further into the mountains. From here you can get to the source of the Soča River or to the breathtaking Vrata Valley with a view of Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. I will mention the Vrata Valley in one of my next travel tips. This valley is also known for one of the most beautiful Slovenian waterfalls – Peričnik.
Is it possible to swim in Lake Jasna in Slovenia?
As for swimming, yes, it is possible. However, it is good to keep in mind that the water is cold even in summer, because the lake is fed by mountain streams from the Julian Alps. However, the water temperature in the summer months varies slightly in each part of the lake, which many tourists do not know. In the first, deeper, lake you can measure around 16 °C even in summer, so swimming is more for the hardy, or go to the second part, where it is not uncommon to measure around 25 °C in the hot months.
There is a wooden pier and small beaches by the lake, from where there is easy access to the water. But it is good to know that Lake Jasna in Slovenia is quite deep, so if you are not sure of your swimming abilities in icy water, it is better to stay close to the shore. During our last vacation in Slovenia, it was possible to go to Lake Jasna with a paddleboard or kayak. In addition, it is possible to rent a SUP directly at the hotel by the lake.

Travel and parking
The car journey from the South Bohemian border to Kranjska Gora takes approximately five hours, mostly on comfortable highways. Lake Jasna itself is within easy walking distance from the center of Kranjska Gora. But feel free to go there by car, there is a picturesque road with views of the surrounding peaks.
Lake Jasna in Slovenia has relatively well-organized parking. Right at the entrance to the complex there is an official parking lot, which is paid, but reasonably priced. If you are staying in Kranjska Gora, you can walk to the lake, which takes about 15 minutes.

Accommodation by Lake Jasna
If you are planning a vacation or just a few nights directly by the lake, there are several accommodations by Lake Jasna, where you will literally be a few steps from the beach. However, expect higher prices and early booking. For us, the nicest accommodation by Lake Jasna, with direct access and a view of the lake, is JASNA CHALET RESORT, which is definitely worth the higher price:
On the other hand, if you want to save on accommodation by Lake Jasna, I recommend looking for hotels or apartments in Kranjska Gora. Personally, I have verified RAMADA RESORT KRANJSKA GORA 4*: from winter vacations.
In Krajska Gora you will find a second hotel under the Ramada brand. It is located just a few minutes across the road and is a bit cheaper:

When visiting, it is good to remember that the area is protected and stricter rules apply here. For example, wild camping and making fires are prohibited. It is also good to remember to have a snack prepared (especially in season), because the restaurant by the lake is quite crowded in the main winter and summer season.
Whether you plan just a short stop on your way through Slovenia, or stay longer, Jasna in Slovenia will surely enchant you with its atmosphere. The calm surface, the reflection of mountain peaks on the surface and the fresh alpine air create a perfect place for relaxation and active vacation. I wish you a successful vacation in Slovenia!
